Introduction to Betaville

MultiMediator's Betaville Classifieds is a classified ads Website for the Canadian new media industry. Betaville is made up of several main ad categories, each of which is divided into sub-categories. Most ad categories are FREE to post in, although we do charge a nominal fee to post in some categories.

You do NOT have to register in order to access Betaville, but registering provides you with certain advantages, including the ability to post your own classified ads, mark ads for review, and set up a search agent to instantly notify you of new ads by e-mail. Best of all, registration is FREE!

The Rules

Betaville is a classifieds Website by and for new media professionals, so professional behaviour is expected and, if necessary, enforced. Here's how we define "professional behaviour":

• Post only classified ads related to new media or the other main categories. Off-topic ads, junk messages, and spamming will NOT be tolerated.
• Post ads in the appropriate category. If you can't find the appropriate area to post to, please e-mail betaville@multimediator.com.
• Post only ONE position per Job Posting. If you have three positions to fill, please post (and pay for) three different ads. Classified ads containing more than one position will be deleted.
• Be considerate. Compelling writing is welcome and encouraged, but name-calling and personal attacks will not be tolerated.
• Label your ads clearly. After all, you want people to read them, don't you?
• Be brief. This isn't a soapbox or a podium. Keep your ads short and to the point.
• Don't post anything you wouldn't want seen around the world. You just never know how many people may end up reading your ad.

We reserve the right to edit or reject ads if necessary. We hope that we never have to enforce these rules, but they are posted here for the record. Can I use my old ProBoards Betaville Username and Password for the new version of Betaville?
No. The Username and Password you used for the old ProBoards version of Betaville will not work with the new version of Betaville. You will need to re-register. To register, click on the "My Profile" icon in the navigation bar and follow the directions. Registration is FREE.

I can't seem to access some Betaville features! Why not?
Some of the features of Betaville are only available to registered users that are logged in. To register, click on the "My Profile" icon in the navigation bar and follow the directions. Registration is FREE.

How do I log in to my account?
To log in, click on the "My Profile" icon in the navigation bar and follow the directions. Please remember that your Username is case sensitive.

How do I know if I am logged in?
To confirm that you are logged in, click on the "My Profile" icon in the navigation bar. If you see a message that says “Update Your Account Profile” then you are logged in.

I am having trouble logging in to my account! What should I do?
Usernames are case sensitive. Please make sure you are typing it in correctly. If you have forgotten your Usernames or Password, click on the link labeled "Forgot Username?" or "Forgot Password?" on the "My Profile" page.

To log out, close your browser window.

How do I post a classified ad?
Click on the "Place Ads" button in the navigation bar and follow the directions. Most ad categories are FREE to post in, although we do charge a nominal fee to post in some categories. Please note that in order to post you must be a registered user and logged in. To register, click on the "My Profile" icon in the navigation bar and follow the directions. Registration is FREE.

How do I know which category to post my ad in?
Read the description of each category that is listed on the home page of Betaville. To get to the home page of Betaville, click on the "Search Ads" icon in the navigation bar.

How do I pay for a classified ad?
Most ad categories are FREE to post in, although we do charge a nominal fee to post in some categories. Payment for those ads is done online via PayPal, an eBay Company. You can pay by Credit Card in Canadian Dollars, and your order is guaranteed safe and secure. Click here to pay to POST an ad or click here to pay to RENEW an ad. Your ad will be deleted if payment is not received promptly.

Why are you now charging for some ads when they used to be free?
After nearly ten years of providing this valuable service free of charge to the new media community, we believe that we have earned the right to charge a nominal fee to help recoup the costs of operating this Web Site. We have tried to make the pricing as affordable as possible for even the smallest company or one-person operation. If you are a non-profit organization or have some other legitimate reason why you cannot afford to pay the full price, please e-mail betaville@multimediator.com or call (416) 352-5471. We would be more than willing to give you a discount.

Can I search the ads in Betaville?
Yes. Use the "Search for" tool below the top navigation bar to do a simple search or click on the "Advanced Search" link to conduct a more advanced search.

How do I see the most recent ads?
Click on the "Advanced Search" link and do a search for ads using the "Posted in the last" X days feature.

I've forgotten my ad number. How do I figure out what it is?
Search Betaville for your ad. Use the "Search for" tool below the top navigation bar to do a simple search or click on the "Advanced Search" link to conduct a more advanced search. The ad number is displayed on every ad just below the “E-mail this ad to a friend” envelope icon.

Can someone other than me modify or delete my ad if they know my ad number?
Other than the Betaville Classifieds Administrator, no one else can modify or delete your ad.

What is this "My Profile" thing?
Every registered user has a profile. In your profile you can choose how your name is displayed, change your Password, edit your contact information, and much more. To update your profile, click on the "My Profile" button in the navigation bar and log in to Betaville.

What is this "My Checklist" thing?
If you would like to mark ads for review, click on the “Add to my Checklist” link, which is displayed on every ad just below the “E-mail this ad to a friend” envelope icon. To view ads that you have marked for review, click on the "My Checklist" button in the navigation bar. Please note that in order to use this feature you must be a registered user and logged in. To register, click on the "My Profile" icon in the navigation bar and follow the directions. Registration is FREE.

What is this "Auto Notify" thing?
If you would like to be instantly notified by e-mail of new ads related to a topic of interest to you, click on the "Auto Notify" button in the navigation bar and follow the directions.
