This report signifies the maturity and potential of digital media, an area that has become a key part of the growing knowledge economy, in Ontario and around the globe. Ontario should be very proud of the international reputation it has built in the industries of telecommunications, computing and the cultural industries.
Given our renowned education system, strong economy and globally competitive private sector, the time has never been better for Ontario to lead the world in digital media. This window, however, will not be open for long. Why follow when we can lead? Let's grab the reins, harness the strengths of many industries and create a model to be admired worldwide.
There is a sizable opportunity to be realized in the development of new forms of interactive content. Investment in this growing area should result in Ontario playing a leading role in the global entertainment and technology industry of the future. Job creation in digital media achieves a number of critical goals, including the significant priority of developing knowledge-worker employment in Ontario. These companies and the innovations that result from their efforts form the basis of a strong domestic economy an economy where intellectual property, the profits and, most importantly, the people remain in Ontario.
To succeed, business and government must work closely together. No single area of industry, no independent arm of government, no agency or institution on its own could have the impact of a truly coordinated, integrated effort.
This speaks to the very meaning of the term convergence: many levels and departments of government, institutions and players in the private sector pulling together to make it known that Ontario is the future.
Let's work together towards a unified vision: The digital media industry of Ontario Playing To Win.
