Multimedia Funding

The Global Digital Media Industry Support Initiatives Inventory that was compiled by MultiMediator Strategy Group Inc. (MMSG) for the Ministry of Energy, Science, and Technology last April is now available. The inventory includes public and private financial incentives designed to support digital media content development and the digital media content development industry in four regions around the globe: Canada, the United States, Europe, and Asia/Pacific. BC Heritage Trust Funding Programs - Community Heritage Development
Community Heritage Development programs support local governments, non-profit organizations, band councils and educational institutions in projects that develop heritage resources and organizations, increase heritage awareness, and make local history accessible to the community and the general public.
Trust investment in projects under these programs is up to half of the total eligible costs to a maximum award of $15,000.

BC TEL New Media and Broadcast Fund
Eligible applicants reside in British Columbia and are involved in projects that are original, fully interactive, have high production values and incorporate some full-motion video, either live action or animation. Successful candidates may receive a range of 10% to 45% of a project's cost to a maximum of $200,000. This is a loan program.

Bell New Media Fund
Bell is investing $12 million in a new Bell Broadcast and New Media Fund to assist Canadian multimedia companies with their future products and developments. This is a grant program. Eligible new media projects must be affiliated with a broadcast property that has a guaranteed broadcast licence.

Provides grants for the production of Canadian shorts covering a wide range of arts-related disciplines.

Canada Council for the Arts
The Canadian Council for the Arts have designed a grant to individual artists in new media arts who wish to develop a multimedia project or need more funding for an existing project. Successful applicants can receive up to $35,000.

Canadian Independent Film and Video Fund
The CIFVF provides financial assistance for the development of fully interactive multimedia projects which are of an educational, informational or edutainment nature. The fund provides partial assistance up to maximum of 49% or $60,000 of direct costs for multimedia projects at three different stages: development, prototype, or production. Funds are awarded annually.

Interactive Digital Media Small Business Growth Fund
Sponsored by the Ontario Government, this program invites the interactive digital media industry and its partners to apply for funding in order to create initiatives that help grow Ontario's industry to develop competitive products and services. The maximum investment by the province will be up to $1,000,000 per project.

Nova Scotia Film Development Corporation

Ontario Interactive Digital Media Tax Credit (OIDMTC)
The OIDMTC is a refundable tax credit of 20% to small interactive digital media companies for labour expenses accumulated while creating interactive digital media products in Ontario. This tax credit is administered by the Ontario Film Development Corporation.

Precommercialization Assistance
The Industrial Assistance Research Program (IRAP) of the National Research Council Canada (NRC) and Technology Partnerships Canada (TPC), a special operating agency of Industry Canada, have joined forces to support innovative small and medium enterprises (SMEs) by investing in projects in the precommercialization stage. The initiative provides repayable contributions that share in both the risk and the rewards of high technology development. Assistance is offered between two to eight years for projects costing $1.5 million or less.

PromoFACT (VideoFACT)
This new funding source provides up to 50% of budgets to a maximum of $3,500 for the production of Web sites and electronic press kits for local Canadian musicians. Only applicable to those musicians in Canadian adult contemporary, light rock, soul, jazz, R&B, reggae and new age projects.
